Snowmaking Maintenance Technician and Pipeline Welder, Copper Mountain, 17 years
About
Welding came out of necessity for Geoff Lautzenhiser, the full-time faculty for the welding program at Colorado Mountain College Leadville. Geoff grew up on a farm in rural Michigan and often found himself repairing broken farming equipment, developing welding skills along the way.
Geoff moved to Leadville in February 2010, and was drawn to the community atmosphere. Leadville's down to earth personality reminded him of his hometown. He enjoys the small town atmosphere, the friends he's made, the outdoor lifestyle and of course, hunting and fishing.
Colorado Mountain College Leadville has worked to develop a full-time faculty welding position for a number of years, identifying the growing need for technical skills in our mountain communities. Geoff, who was formerly employed full-time at Copper Mountain as a Snowmaking Maintenance Technician, jumped at the opportunity to commit to the welding program. Although he truly enjoyed his 17 years with Copper Mountain, he is excited to come on board with CMC. Geoff has always had a passion for teaching, whether it was coworkers about welding, or friends how to fly fish.
