An owner’s manual to free speech
CMC Glenwood Springs hosts local constitutional scholar Greg Russi on Sept. 17
GLENWOOD SPRINGS – This Constitution Day on Sept. 17, Colorado Mountain College’s Glenwood Center is hosting a free public presentation with constitutional scholar Greg Russi.
“Constitutional Conversations: Can I Say That? – Navigating Free Speech on College Campuses” is Russi’s overview to navigating free speech both in public and in higher education. The presentation will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Russi currently teaches a six-week-long community education course at the Glenwood Center, entitled “We the People: An Owner’s Manual to the U.S. Constitution.”
Becky Musselman, a CMC political science adjunct faculty member, will help facilitate Russi’s talk. She said the evening will examine American free speech history and analyze the future of American campuses as “marketplaces of ideas.”
Constitution Day, which commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, has been recognized since 2004, having been championed by Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
Public schools and federally funded institutions are required to host activities highlighting the signing of the Constitution and the responsibilities of citizenship.
