SUMMIT COUNTY — At two commencement ceremonies Friday, May 1, Colorado Mountain College celebrated over 330 graduates at its Dillon and Breckenridge campuses.

At a morning nurse pinning ceremony and commencement at the Breckenridge campus, around 20 graduates were honored for earning Bachelor of Science in nursing degrees.

In the afternoon, a general commencement ceremony at Keystone Conference Center recognized students earning high school diplomas, GEDs and certificates of proficiency, along with associate and bachelor’s degrees.

Brenda Igreda Rivera, a graduate who earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a certificate in accounting, delivered a speech to the student body. Rivera spoke about her two sisters, both of whom were also honored for their degrees and certificates at Colorado Mountain College this year.

“All of us are taking powerful steps in our education journey,” Rivera said. “We’re opening our own doors.”

Joe Garcia, a former lieutenant governor of Colorado, served as this year’s keynote speaker.

The ceremony recognized graduates in an array of educational programs, including nursing, early childhood education, emergency medical services and more. During Colorado Mountain College’s spring commencement season, around 2,000 graduates across 11 campuses were honored.
