EDWARDS – Free mini-classes in biology, Italian, creative writing, emergency services and sustainability — all with a Colorado twist to acknowledge 150 years of statehood — will be offered in a one-evening event in Edwards.

The Colorado Mountain College Foundation invites area residents to join faculty and staff from the CMC Vail Valley at Edwards campus for “Student for an Evening: A Celebration of Colorado’s 150 Years of Statehood.”

The event, on Thursday, April 16, 5-7:30 p.m., will be at the Edwards campus, 150 Miller Ranch Road.

“Students” can also learn about the dangers of living in a 19th-century mining town and the emerging Rights of Nature movement with recent examples in Colorado.

“Student for a Day” is an annual Vail Valley event normally held in the morning and over lunch. This year, the event will move to the evening to better celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of Colorado’s statehood.

CMC faculty members will teach five bite-sized, Colorado-themed classes before participants celebrate with tapas and drinks. The evening will conclude with a short Colorado history lesson taught by Dr. Matt Gianneschi, CMC president, economist and historian.

Event schedule:

• 4:45 p.m. - Registration opens

• 5:15 p.m. - Classes begin – students will select three out of five class options

• 6:45 p.m. - Tapas and drinks on the patio (weather permitting)

• 7:15 p.m. - A Colorado history lesson with Matt Gianneschi

Reservations are required; please contact the event organizer, Lisa Isom or call 970-569-2935.
