CMC Breckenridge, CMC ArtShare and Breck Create partner on Art and Sustainability Symposium Feb. 12

BRECKENRIDGE — Colorado Mountain College Breckenridge, CMC Foundation’s ArtShare program and Breck Create have partnered to present the upcoming Art and Sustainability Symposium. The event is from 4-7 p.m., Feb. 12, and will bring together nationally known and local artists, students, sustainability leaders and community members exploring the intersection of creativity and environmental stewardship.

This free public event will take place at CMC’s Breckenridge campus and will feature hands-on learning opportunities; student project showcases; and community conversations focused on how art can inspire sustainable practices.

Organizers have divided the symposium into three sections. From 4-5:30, a Community Art Salon, Maker Spaces and optional mini workshops will welcome attendees to the campus’s lobby and classrooms.

Secondly, from 5:30-6:45 p.m., an evening program will feature the Detroit-based artists collective Thing Thing, composed of Rachel Mulder, Eiji Jimbo and Simon Anton, in the campus’s Finkel Auditorium. Thing Thing is the Artist-in-Residence at Breck Create’s Precious Plastic Studio from Feb. 9-20. To conclude the symposium, the presentation will be followed by an artists and community panel exploring creativity in environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Invited contributors include Juan Fuentes, a photo-based artist born in Chihuahua, Mexico and raised in Denver. Artwork by Fuentes is currently on display throughout the spring semester in the halls of the CMC Breckenridge campus. Fuentes’ artwork was recently in an exhibition presented by Breck Create in collaboration with Mountain Dreamers.

CMC sustainability students will also showcase their class projects along with representatives from High Country Conservation Center. Breck Create’s Nicole Sletta, coordinator of the local Precious Plastics program and Daniela Veltri, a sustainable ceramicist and CMC Mountain Scholars student will also participate.

The symposium is designed for students, artists, educators, environmental advocates and community members interested in how creative expression can support sustainable solutions and community resilience.

CMC Breckenridge is at 107 Denison Placer Rd., Breckenridge. Admission is free, and no registration is required. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided.
