CMC financial aid available to guide students in FAFSA process
Nov. 22, 2024 - The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is the standard form students must fill out and submit each academic year to be considered for federal and other types of financial aid. The FAFSA form is typically made available on Oct. 1 each year.
However, for the second consecutive year, the FAFSA is delayed and is now scheduled to open to all applicants on Dec. 1.
Additionally, the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid, or CASFA, is delayed. The Colorado Department of Higher Education hopes to open the CASFA the first week in December 2024.
Fortunately, according to Janelle Cook, CMC’s director of financial aid, the department is implementing several pathways to assist and support students prior to FAFSA’s 2025-26 launch:
- Students are encouraged to use the college’s Net Price Calculator before the FAFSA form is available to determine the cost of attending CMC. The calculator will provide a preliminary estimate of federal, state and other aid eligibility, to help students gauge what aid the student may be awarded and to plan to cover remaining costs.
- Students who do not currently have a StudentAid account can create one now.
- The CMC Foundation Scholarship Application will open Dec. 1, 2024.
- CMC financial aid staff are available to assist with any financial aid questions. Students may also drop into virtual open office hours or contact 970-947-8322, mailto:finaid@coloradomtn.edu.
