CMC Foundation ArtShare presents a colossal exhibition of pixel art by Steamboat Springs Middle School students

A very large pixel art mural created by 450 Steamboat Springs Middle School students will be on display at CMC Steamboat Springs on Wednesday, May 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. The free event, presented by CMC Foundation ArtShare, is an opportunity to view what may be one of the largest displays of pixel art in the world.

The mural, consisting of five 10x10 foot panels, was created as a collaborative effort by the students, under the direction of fine arts teacher Garret Bock. Over the course of this year-long project, students in grades six through eight designed and created small pieces of pixel-based artwork, similar to video game designs.

The Guinness Book of World Records was contacted to see if the middle school’s attempt would constitute the world’s largest pixel art mural. While the project has not yet achieved the world record, new pieces are being made on a regular basis to grow the mural and meet the requirements of a world record. The goal has students excited to keep creating.
