CMC hosts adventure films night at Spring Valley

A night of short adventure films will be presented at Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley's New Space Theatre, 3000 County Road 114, Glenwood Springs, on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6-8 p.m.

Sponsored by the CMC Student Government and the Isaacson School for Communication, Arts and Media, the 5 Point Film Festival On the Road Tour, features six films: “Above the Noise,” “Canyon Chorus,” “Fall Harvest,” NISEI,” “26,000 Days” and “Slides on the Mountain.”

Sierra Schlag, is a Roaring Fork Valley-based filmmaker. She wrote and produced "NISEI” and will take part in a question-and-answer session.

On her Instagram page, Schlag explained, "Nisei (nee-say) by definition is a person born in the U.S. from Japanese immigrant parent(s). My new film, ‘NISEI,’ explores this feeling of never quite fitting into either place that I am culturally connected to.

"In Japan, I’m seen as white, while in America I am consistently seen as Asian — but luckily both cultures I’m connected to have pretty amazing skiing.

"The film is artsy and represents how confusing yet beautiful it is to be multiracial," she added.

Founded in 2007 in Carbondale, the 5 Point Film Festival’s website describes the films annually chosen as those that offer "... uplifting diverse storytellers and stories that allow us to better understand the world around us. We are guided by our five founding principles: Commitment, respect, humility, purpose, balance."

Tickets can be purchased at On the Stage Tickets and are $15 for general admission, $10 for CMC employees and free for CMC students. Gear giveaways and an announcement about upcoming internships will take place at intermission.
