U.S. Senator Michael Bennet to give keynote address

April 20, 2024 - Colorado Mountain College Leadville graduates will welcome U.S. Senator Michael Bennet as he gives the campus’s commencement address at the Leadville campus on May 3.

Collegewide, 12 ceremonies total will be held at 11 locations throughout CMC’s region on May 3, 4 and 6 to celebrate the accomplishments of the college’s graduating class of 2024.

Reflecting CMC’s range of educational offerings, students will receive bachelor's and associate degrees, certificates of occupational proficiency and high school equivalency, general education, adult high school and workforce diplomas. Additionally, regional high school students in CMC’s concurrent enrollment program will walk alongside graduates to receive their college-level certificates and degrees.

U.S. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado will address the class of 2024 at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, at the Climax Molybdenum Leadership Center at the Leadville campus.

In his work in the Senate, Bennet supports expanding access to concurrent enrollment for high school students, as well as career and technical education opportunities in higher education that prepare students for 21st century jobs. Bennet introduced the Colorado Recreation & Economy Act, and in 2022, he lent his support to designating nearby Camp Hale-Continental Divide as a national monument, permanently protecting the site where the 10th Mountain Division trained to fight in World War II, and then returned to found much of Colorado’s ski industry.

In addition to serving as a U.S. senator since 2009, Bennet previously was the managing director of the Anschutz Investment Company, chief of staff to then-Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and was the superintendent of Denver Public Schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and a juris doctor from Yale Law School.

Colorado Mountain College Leadville is at 901 Highway 24, Leadville. For more information and details on Leadville's  commencement ceremony and CMC’s other 11 ceremonies, visit CMC commencement ceremonies.
