CMC Locals Scholarship now accepting applications
March 25, 2025 - Colorado Mountain College is offering $1,000 tuition scholarships for 2025 in-district high school, General Educational Development and Adult High School Diploma graduates who enroll as new students this fall.
Former CMC President Carrie Hauser started the President’s Scholarship several years ago for students graduating from a high school in CMC’s district. They received $1,000 scholarships to attend CMC after they filled out application materials and enrolled in at least 15 credit hours per semester to be considered full-time CMC students.
The scholarship has been renamed the Locals Scholarship this year. All students and applicants interested in applying for the Locals Scholarship are encouraged to contact CMC’s Office of Financial Aid for questions by scheduling an appointment by calling or 970-945-8691 ext. 8322 or e-mailing finaid@coloradomtn.edu.
‘An extra boost’
Junior Reed of Silt received a President's Scholarship in 2024 and is taking classes at the Rifle campus.
"I was going to go to trade school but in my senior year in high school I started enjoying my classes so I wondered if CMC might be a good place," he said. "It really gave me an extra boost in paying for classes and helped me make the decision."
Reed also noted the scholarship offered extras such as tutoring help and a peer mentor program.
CMC’s financial aid office ready to help
Those interested in the Locals Scholarship are encouraged to contact CMC’s financial aid office for assistance by calling 970-947-8322 to set up an appointment, e-mailing CMC's financial aid office and visiting the financial aid office webpage. The Locals Scholarship webpage also provides information.
To be considered, applicants must complete a CMC admissions application, plus the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, before May 1. The deadline for those who complete the GED test is Aug. 1. Use school code 004506.
Those not FAFSA eligible can still receive the scholarship by completing the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid, or CASFA, by May 1 and listing CMC’s school code of 004506.
Students who do not submit the FAFSA or CASFA by the Locals Scholarship deadline are still encouraged to apply after May 1 and may be considered for additional financial aid opportunities.
Applicants without a high school diploma must complete the Adult High School Diploma program before June 30 or complete the GED test before Aug. 1.
The FAFSA or CASFA must be official and complete, including any follow-up requirements (such as verification) for scholarship funds to be awarded. Verification must be resolved by the start of the fall term for applicants to remain eligible.
To register for classes, scholarship recipients must either attend a campus orientation or meet with a CMC counselor or advisor this summer.
Recipients also must enroll by Aug. 25 to receive their scholarships. Applicants who register for at least 15 credits can receive the full $500 per semester amount, 12 credits to receive a partial $400 scholarship per semester, or six credits in the summer semester to receive a $200 scholarship.
