Dr. William Mundo honored at CMC Leadville July 23
In 2011, Mundo was a Lake County High School student considering dropping out of school. Counselors and members of CMC’s Upward Bound program reached out, encouraging Mundo to take a year of classes through Leadville’s high school concurrent enrollment program, and to take EMT-Basic courses at the college.
“CMC gave me the opportunity to turn things around, to think about what I want to do in the future,” said Mundo.
A year later, Mundo was graduating from high school with his EMT-Basic certification.
Today, Dr. Mundo is a 2022 graduate with a medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in public health and a Bachelor of Arts in ethnic studies from the University of Colorado Denver. Shortly after completing his undergraduate studies, he also received a master’s degree from the Colorado School of Public Health.
To celebrate Dr. Mundo’s achievements, the CMC Alumni Association is sponsoring a free reception open to the public at CMC Leadville from 10-11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Pinnacle Commons/Library. The event will include a Q&A with Dr. Mundo from 10:30-10:50 a.m. and refreshments will be served.
Copies of Dr. Mundo’s book, “From Margins to Medicine: A First-Generation Student Health Equity Guide on Overcoming Adversity with Diversity” will be available for purchase.
Dr. Mundo’s wife, Brisa Mundo, is a fourth-year medical student and will attend as well.
The campus is located at 901 S. Highway 24, Leadville. For more information, contact Leslie Gamez, CMC Alumni Relations, lgamez@coloradomtn.edu, 719-486-4287.
