FAFSA update: CMC awarding financial aid through summer

June 3, 2024 – Now that the issues regarding the 2024-25 “better” FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, form have been mostly resolved, Colorado Mountain College’s financial aid office continues to meet and help students and parents to complete it.

After significant delays following the form’s major overhaul affecting students, colleges and universities nationwide, CMC’s financial aid office is processing the 2024-25 FAFSA form and sending aid offers to students.

The delays have also impacted the CASFA, or Colorado Application for State Financial Aid, form, which CMC will begin processing in mid-June.

For Lindsay Stoffel, a CMC student in the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree program, the better FAFSA was worth the wait.

“My experience was quick, efficient and most importantly, easy,” Stoffel said of using the new form. “It took me maybe 20 minutes to complete.”

Stoffel said the FAFSA is designed to offer the most financial aid possible. “The FAFSA has made it possible for me to not only attend my program of choice, but it is providing me with the funds needed to keep up with the cost of living,” she said.

“Almost the entirety of my living expenses will be covered for the 2024-25 academic year as a direct result of federal grants and loans,” Stoffel continued. "I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to apply for financial aid and to be significantly awarded.”

Several FAFSA workshops are being held at CMC campuses throughout the summer. Check in with the financial office for where and when those events will be held.

The good news is that the FAFSA/CASFA deadlines, such as the President’s Scholarship offered to 2024 in-district high school graduates, have been extended to July 1, 2024. Students who have questions about completing the forms or items are encouraged to schedule an appointment virtually or over the phone.
