Sopris Theatre Company opener is ‘The Sweetest Swing in Baseball’
Performances run from Oct. 18-27 at CMC’s Spring Valley campus
The play follows Dana Fielding, an artist grappling with both professional setbacks and personal turmoil. After a disastrous gallery showing and a heartbreaking end to her relationship, Dana's struggles culminate in a suicide attempt that lands her in a mental health facility. Amidst the structure of ward life, she finds unexpected comfort and camaraderie with her fellow patients. However, when she discovers her health insurance only covers a 10-day stay, Dana devises a plan to prolong her time in the ward by adopting the persona of troubled baseball star Darryl Strawberry, where she explores the depths of identity and mental health.
“The Sweetest Swing in Baseball” dives deep into themes of vulnerability, the complexities of the human psyche and the often-hidden battles faced by those in the creative world. Sopris Theatre Company promises an unforgettable theatrical experience that blends humor, heart and a powerful message about mental health.
