Sopris Theatre Company presents ‘Silent Sky’ in-person and livestreamed
Sopris Theatre Company at CMC will present “Silent Sky,” by Lauren Gunderson, the true story of 19th century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, at the New Space Theatre at CMC Spring Valley, Feb. 11-27. The production will also be livestreamed.
“Silent Sky” explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.
Directed by Wendy Tennis, “Silent Sky” will run 90 minutes plus a 10-minute intermission on Feb. 11-12, 18-19 and 25-26, from 7-8:45 p.m.; and Feb. 13, 20 and 27 from 2-3:45 p.m. at CMC Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, 3000 County Road 114. Post-show conversations will be held on Feb. 12, 20 and 25. Admission is $20 for adults and all livestreamed performances and $15 for in-person performances for seniors, students and CMC employees. Tickets for both in-person and livestreamed performances are available at https://coloradomtn.edu/theatre by clicking on “Current Productions” and “Silent Sky.”
