President’s Response to National Admissions Scandal

March 18, 2019: In light of the recent college admissions scandal, a statement from Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser, CMC President & CEO.

As a former college admissions officer, I was disappointed to learn of the far-reaching scandal to get students into various colleges dishonestly and unethically. For more than 50 years, Colorado Mountain College has been and remains open to everyone. Our mission cannot be bought, bribed, influenced, or hijacked.

We serve the people and employers that make our beautiful mountain towns work, plain and simple. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor; a high school dropout or a Nobel Laureate; far right or far left; citizen or immigrant; upskilling for a better job or to learning art for its own sake; a Wall Street titan or a Main Street “mom” or “pop”; straight, gay, or transgender; single, married, partnered, divorced, or widowed; young or not so young; a faithful servant of a higher power, agnostic, or atheist; rich and famous or down-and-out and anonymous; a world-class athlete or embarrassingly uncoordinated, CMC is here for you and always will be.

Our college was built by our communities, for our communities. The college’s mission, vision, and values are not for sale. Our doors are open to all who want a rigorous, affordable, high-quality, and accessible education taught by exceptional faculty. Registration for the fall term opens on April 22. You are welcome on any CMC campus and we hope to see you soon.
