Transfer into the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Integrated Media

Designed for students who have completed (or are completing) an Associate of Applied Science or related associate degree in media, design, communication, or a closely aligned field and wish to continue into upper-division study.

BAS Program Overview

This page outlines how transfer coursework is reviewed, what preparation is recommended, and how students can determine whether the program is a good fit.

Program Overview (Upper-Division Focus)

The Integrated Media BAS emphasizes applied, interdisciplinary media practice. Students develop advanced skills across multiple creative disciplines while working in collaborative, project-based environments.

Upper-division coursework typically builds on associate-level preparation in areas such as:

  • Digital video and media production
  • Photography and visual communication
  • Graphic design and layout
  • Media, communication, or content development
  • Applied technology and creative problem solving

Courses emphasize collaboration, project planning, and professional workflows appropriate for creative industry and community-based work.

Applied Learning Through the iWorks Agency Model

Many upper-division courses in the Integrated Media BAS are structured around iWorks, the Isaacson School’s student-run, faculty-mentored creative agency.

Within this model, students:

  • Work on applied projects with real clients and community partners
  • Collaborate in interdisciplinary creative teams
  • Practice professional workflows such as project intake, production planning, and delivery
  • Develop portfolio-ready work alongside academic study

Participation in iWorks supports students in translating academic learning into professional experience.

Transfer Guidelines: How Associate Degrees Are Reviewed

Transfer review focuses on overall preparation and competencies, rather than exact course-to-course matches alone.

In general, transfer students should have:

  • An AAS or related associate degree in a media, design, communication, marketing, or technology-aligned field
  • Foundational coursework in one or more of the following areas:
    • Digital media, video, or audio production
    • Graphic design or visual communication
    • Photography or cinematography
    • Media studies, communication, or marketing
  • Evidence of readiness for upper-division, project-based coursework

Depending on prior coursework, some students may be asked to complete specific bridge or leveling courses to ensure alignment with BAS expectations.

Transfer credit decisions are made on an individual basis in coordination with academic advising and the program director.

Planning Your Transfer Pathway

Because associate degrees vary by institution and program focus, students are encouraged to discuss their specific coursework and goals prior to applying.

A transfer consultation can help:

  • Clarify how associate-level credits apply to the BAS
  • Identify any recommended bridge coursework
  • Establish a realistic timeline to degree completion
  • Align the program with career or professional objectives
