Students become eligible to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam upon completion of all coursework and the capstone.

Upon completing the Medical Billing and Coding Certificate program, CMC students will be able to:
- Apply medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to select accurate diagnostic codes.
- Accurately code and bill healthcare claims in compliance with medical standards and current industry regulations.
- Process, verify, and reconcile billing information in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate healthcare claims for accuracy, completeness, and compliance within insurance and clinical environments.
- Interpret and code inpatient and outpatient reports and management of care services.
- Code a wide variety of patient services using accurate CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes.
All Medical Billing and Coding students must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screen to work in the medical profession.
Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program.
