Account Holds

Having trouble registering? You might have a hold.

The table below explains what the holds are and how they can be resolved. Sometimes you just need to provide some additional information to your campus staff and then you can get registered.

Federal Policy

Hold Message Explanation How to resolve Hold
SSN Required or Signed Waiver Colorado Mountain College is required to have a Social Security Number, ITIN, or a waiver on file for each student taking credit classes. If this information is missing from your record it will create a hold. To remove the hold, you can complete a Social Security / ITIN Verification Form and submit it to the registration staff at any campus or submit a W-9 Form

If you refuse to provide your SSN, ITIN or sign the waiver, you will not be allowed to register for credit classes.

In addition, if you fail to provide your correct SSN or ITIN to the college, you could be subject to a penalty of $50.

Selective Service Rule Most males 18 through 25 must register with the Selective Service. If you are required to register, and you have not done so, it will create a hold. Register here for selective service. You should then notify CMC registration staff at your campus so they can update your record and remove the hold.

State Policy

Hold Message Explanation How to resolve Hold
Immunization Students must be in compliance with immunization law. If we do not have your immunization record or an exemption on file it will create a hold. You should submit your immunization record or exemption to registration staff. Current forms are available on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment website.

Once the information is received, it will be entered into your account and the hold will be removed.

Placement Testing Required State law requires that all college students be tested in English, Reading and Math.*

The first semester is a semester of grace to allow time for tests to be taken and/or scores to be received and entered.

If you are in a degree seeking program tests must be taken and/or scores must be entered before you can register for classes the next semester.

*Does not apply to Non-degree seeking students or Concurrent Enrollment students

PLEASE NOTE: Prerequisite Holds for individual courses are different than Placement Testing Hold.

You can resolve the hold by doing one of the following:

  • take the placement tests
  • provide ACT or SAT test scores
  • provide other test scores from standardized exams e.g. AP, CLEP, IB, DSST. (Score must be high enough to equate to college credit.)
  • Indicate on your admissions application if you already hold an associate’s degree or higher
  • If you are a transfer student, send your transcripts and verify transfer credit has been posted to your record
Re-admit If you have attended CMC previously, but not within the last 12 months, you must have an updated application on file before registering for credit classes. This is a State requirement to determine tuition classification. Sign back into your application to update it.

CMC Application

Block High School Student Registration If you are still enrolled in high school, you will not be able to register for credit classes. This is because CMC requires additional information from the student, the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s), and approval from the high school. If you are still in High School complete your Concurrent Enrollment Application.

If you are no longer enrolled in high school but you have HS.HS or HS.CEPA as your only academic program at CMC, you will need to complete a CMC Application to update your academic level and program.

  • If you are just taking a few classes and are non-degree seeking and have met the pre-requisites elsewhere, please contact your counselor or advisor as they can potentially lift the hold for you.
Academic Suspension Students are placed on Academic Suspension when their GPA falls below the academic standards outlined in the Student Handbook.

If you have been placed on Academic Suspension you are no longer eligible to register for classes for at least the semester following your suspension.

You should have received an email notifying you of the suspension.
