What has been your educational journey?
I am a first-generation college student. My family really pushed me to go to college and major in STEM. I went to California State University – Fullerton as a Biology major and realized that STEM wasn’t my passion.
I switched my major many times as I didn’t really know what was next for me. I ultimately declared a major in Communications and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
After graduation I worked in education and marketing. I really enjoyed the work that I was doing in the education field and knew I wanted to get into the field of education, so, I pursued a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration and graduated from St. Cloud State University. I am currently working towards obtaining my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education.
What is your role at CMC and COSI?
I work in the Office of Strategic Initiatives, where our team leads, manages, and implements college-wide grants and initiatives. I also serve as one of the leads for the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) programs at CMC and I am the main point of contact for the COSI Finish What You Started program.
What got you to CMC and what keeps you here?
CMC is a unique school and such a different college experience. COSI is such an amazing program, and it makes me happy that the work that I do helps students fund their education without having to take out loans and can work a little less so they can focus more on academics or help to prevent students from stopping out because of finances.
What’s also great is that in my role, I get to learn more about areas that can be improved at CMC and help to create that change.
