Main Job Functions:

The Ecosystem Science & Stewardship (ESS) Research Assistantship Work-Study position is designed to embed eligible student(s) in ESS Program research, campus-based laboratory and field operations, and community-engaged partnerships. The Fall 2025 position prioritizes the curation of wildlife artifacts and specimens, the organization and cataloguing of ESS field gear, and the integration of curriculum and field studies that link the CMC Steamboat Springs ESS Program to local partners at the U.S. Forest Service and Yampatika, an Environmental Education nonprofit (501.c.3), in support of the CMC-Yampatika Summer Naturalist Internship Program, ESS-3870 Public Lands Interp.

Job Duties:

Ecosystem Science & Stewardship (ESS) Research Assistant duties include: 1. The curation of wildlife artifacts and specimens for use in BS.ESS teaching and learning, and field and laboratory studies. 2. The organization and cataloguing of ESS field gear in the joint OUT/ESS Gear Room, CMC Steamboat Springs. 3. The collection of curriculum for use in the CMC-Yampatika Summer Naturalist Internship Program and conjoined course offering, ESS-3870 Public Lands Interpretation (1 cr. COOP)

Working Conditions:

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally. Minimum Qualifications:

Enrollment in the Bachelors of Science in Ecosystem Science & Stewardship Program (BS.ESS) and in-person attendance at the CMC Steamboat Springs campus.
