Main Job Functions:
This position cares for the grounds in and around Spring Valley's greenhouse and works to engage the campus community in food-growing activities that promote the health and vitality of our campus.
Job Duties:
Monitor Spring Valley greenhouse & surrounding grounds to ensure attractive aesthetics & healthy habitat of campus facilities; Coordinate volunteer shifts in & around the greenhouse with internal & external groups; Manage Projects Board so volunteers know what to do and how to participate in greenhouse activities; Germinate seeds, transplant seedlings, thin garden beds, propagate and maintain nursery plants; Ensure adequate watering schedule
Working Conditions:
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally. Minimum Qualifications:
A desire to learn about plants and how to care for them in greenhouse and outdoor settings. A willingness to get your fingernails dirty, dig holes and move dirt and other materials.
