Main Job Functions:

The Peer Mentor position provides a supportive environment for students by assisting them with available campus resources and processes to access them. The Peer Mentor helps mentee in achieving their academic goals by helping them with navigating college technology, as well as providing referrals for academic support/tutoring.

Job Duties:

Educate mentees on available campus resources and facilitates connection to these resources and train mentee to navigate college technology. Provide mentees academic support as appropriate, and/or tutoring referrals. Evaluate mentee’s time management, organizational skills, and learning strategies. Communicate closely with CMC student services staff regarding ongoing needs and progress of mentees.

Working Conditions:

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally. Minimum Qualifications:

The Peer Mentor must be a currently enrolled returning 2nd (or higher) year student in good standing with CMC with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must be proficient in the written and spoken English language with good interpersonal communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) capabilities are strongly encouraged.
