La resistencia, las agallas y la obstinada determinación nos definen. Ganarse la vida en el remoto oeste de Colorado nunca ha sido fácil ni está garantizado. Aunque tenemos la suerte y el privilegio de vivir aquí, hace falta un auténtico amor por el lugar para soportar las dificultades comunes a nuestra región–escasez de viviendas asequibles, grandes interrupciones del transporte, incendios, inundaciones, ventiscas, sequías y ahora un virus. While we are lucky and privileged to live here, it takes a genuine love of place to withstand the hardships common to our region—scant affordable housing, major transit disruptions, fires, floods, blizzards, drought and now a virus. El trabajo duro nivela el campo de juego

A veces tiene que fijar la mirada en un objetivo que pareciera estar fuera de su alcance y dedicar su energía a lograrlo.

Hace varios años, el equipo de Colorado Mountain College estableció la meta de convertirse en la próxima Institución al Servicio del Hispano (HSI) de Colorado, designación federal asignada a colegios y universidades que apoyan con éxito a una población estudiantil latina del 25% o más. Basado en la historia de CMC, era un objetivo que parecía demasiado arrogante. Pero, al implementar las estrategias correctas, sabíamos que se podía lograr.

Hard work levels the playing field

Sometimes you have to set your sights on a target that’s seemingly out of reach and pour your energy into accomplishing it.

Several years ago, the team at Colorado Mountain College established a goal to become Colorado’s next Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), the federal designation assigned to colleges and universities that successfully support a student population that is 25% or more Latino. Based on CMC’s history, it was a seemingly overconfident objective. But, by putting the right strategies in place, we knew it could be achieved. Read more: Hard work levels the playing field

Expanding for Impact

Recently, I received my first COVID-19 vaccination.  As the nurse who administered my shot – a Colorado Mountain College nursing program graduate – placed a small bandage on the injection site, I was once again energized by the contributions CMC makes to our state. This “shot in the arm” was both cause for optimism and a symbolic reminder that many challenges still lie ahead….

President’s Statement on the Tragic Events in Atlanta and Boulder March 23, 2021 Statement by Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser, President & CEO, Colorado Mountain College The sad news about recent shootings in Atlanta and Boulder has affected us all deeply. On behalf of the entire Colorado Mountain College community, we grieve alongside the victims, their families and these communities. And, we stand firmly with those responding to and wrestling with the actions leading to these terrible events. Collectively, we simply must get our arms around these tragedies which have become all too common.  CMC will continue to prioritize and create the conditions that lead to opportunity and hope for everyone.
