Se requiere el uso de  mascarillas para el inicio del semestre de otoño

18 de agosto de 2021

In English: Masks required for fall semester start

COVID Procedures for CMC Employees and Students

TO: CMC Community
FROM: Matt Gianneschi, Chief Operating Officer
CC: Carrie Hauser, President
DATE: August 20, 2021
RE: COVID Procedures for CMC Employees and Students

The purpose of this memo is to provide the CMC community with general guidance regarding the college’s COVID protocols and related activities.

Get vaccinated. Make required until further notice. Get tested if you have symptoms. Wash your hands often. Stay home if you are sick.

Masking Procedures. Effective Monday, August 23, 2021, face coverings will be required for all individuals entering CMC buildings. Though college leadership will revisit this procedure in light of prevailing public health guidance on or about Labor Day, the following procedures will be observed until further notice:

  • Face coverings will be required for all, regardless of vaccine status, when in shared indoor campus environments.
  • Physical distancing will not be required except when necessary to address actual or potential infections.
  • Masks may be removed when in a private office or residence hall room, or when eating or drinking.
    • Outside groups (non-CMC) that use CMC rooms for their meetings or events must wear face coverings when in public spaces such as hallways or restrooms, but may follow prevailing county health guidelines when in a room closed to the public.
  • Masks will be optional when outdoors.
    • Instructors that choose to teach courses outside may do so without face coverings.
  • Persons with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing masks should contact the campus disability coordinator (for students) or Human Resources (for employees) to discuss the process for verifying the condition and identifying potential accommodations.
  • Note: The college is exploring the efficacy of alternative approaches, such as allowing fully vaccinated instructors to remove their masks while maintaining a certain distance from students, but these have not yet been established.

Symptom Monitoring and COVID Testing. Anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID—fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea—is expected to STAY HOME and get tested!

To assist those with limited health care options or those who cannot access one of the many free testing sites, the college will pay for COVID-19 testing for faculty, staff, and enrolled students needing this service in order to return to work or the classroom.

  • Students seeking a reimbursement for COVID-19 testing should submit a copy of their itemized invoice/receipt to payments@coloradomtn.edu.
  • Faculty and staff seeking a reimbursement for COVID-19 testing should follow the college’s expense reimbursement process, which also requires an itemized invoice/receipt.

Quarantine and Isolation Procedures. In cases of known or suspected exposure, Colorado Mountain College will follow the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (CDPHE) quarantine guidance. This guidance is as follows:

Quarantine:

  • Vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine after being exposed to someone with COVID-19; however, they should get a COVID-19 test three to five days after exposure and wear a mask in public for 14 days after exposure or until they have a negative test result.
    • If they develop any symptoms of COVID-19 in the 14 days after exposure, they should get tested, even if they had a negative test previously.
  • Unvaccinated individuals who have had close contact with individuals testing positive for COVID-19 should stay home in quarantine 10 days (without testing) or 7 days with a negative test result (test must occur on day 5 or later).

Isolation:

  • According to CDPHE isolation guidance, anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or who tests positive for COVID-19—vaccinated or unvaccinated—must remain home and isolate (stay away from others) for 10 days since symptoms first appeared or as otherwise directed by county public health officials. After the 10-day isolation, individuals can return to CMC facilities if they have had no fever for at least 24 hours (without using medicine that reduces fevers) and symptoms have improved (for example, when your cough or shortness of breath have improved).

Contact Tracing. The college will cooperate with and assist county public health officials in contact tracing in order to notify known close-contacts of the potential COVID-19 exposure.

Vaccine Clinics and Marketing. All CMC campuses will host vaccination clinics during the first week of classes, either on campus or in their communities. These clinics will be open to all and publicized on the CMC Trail Map site. We hope that the convenience of receiving a vaccine on campus will encourage others to protect themselves, their neighbors, and their classmates.

Additionally, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is offering $100 gift cards to WalMart for all individuals who receive a vaccine as part of the Comeback Cash Gift Card Giveaway. Dates and locations for these events can be found on the CDPHE website (https://covid19.colorado.gov/coloradocomebackcash).

Student and Employee Conduct. Employees and students are expected to adhere to the procedures outlined in this document. Individuals observing incidents in violation of the procedures herein should submit a CMC Cares report. These reports allow college personnel to address concerning behavior quickly and efficiently.

In addition, the conduct of CMC students is governed by the Student Code of Conduct. According to the code, CMC students are expected to behave in ways that do not interfere with either an instructor’s ability to conduct a class or the ability of students to benefit from instruction. When outside of classrooms, students are also expected to conduct themselves in ways that maintain order and do not disrupt the operation of the institution or infringe on the rights of other members of the college community, subject only to reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions.

We want to hear from students and encourage them to share their concerns with campus and college leadership. However, we ask that members of the CMC community share their concerns with college officials outside of classroom environments.

Similarly, employees with legitimate concerns with college procedures are encouraged to file a grievance with the Office of Human Resources.

CMC students, faculty and staff with questions about the college’s COVID procedures should submit their inquiries through the questionnaire on the CMC Trail Map site. CMC leadership will gather these questions and share answers through its “Frequently Asked Questions,” which is available on the Trail Map site. The FAQs site will be updated periodically.

Masks required for fall semester start

August 18, 2021

En español: Se requiere el uso de mascarillas para el inicio del semestre de otoño

Colorado Mountain College will begin its fall semester on Aug. 23 with a range of innovative and accessible options for students to learn, while keeping all involved as safe and as healthy as possible.

CMC is requiring that students wear masks on campus for at least the first few weeks of the fall semester. The college will also require proof of the COVID-19 vaccination for students who are living in the college’s residence halls. Those who are participating in athletics or who are enrolled in academic programs such as health care, public safety and first responder are required to be vaccinated. Exemptions from vaccination may be requested for medical reasons or religious/personal beliefs.

Throughout the college’s 11 campuses and locations, staff, faculty and students who don’t fit the above criteria are not required to be vaccinated. The mask requirement is not permanent. College leadership will re-evaluate the masking policy in the coming weeks.

Course Types

For those who are not comfortable attending classes in masks, the college is delivering course content in four ways as well as adding new sections of online classes. Online classes start one week later than in-person classes, so there’s still plenty of time to register.

  • In-person courses are held face-to-face at a CMC campus
  • Live-stream courses are held virtually in real time
  • Hybrid courses are a combination of in-person class time and online interaction
  • Online anytime courses are recorded virtual courses that students can take on their schedules

Keep Crushing COVID

Last year’s 5 Commitments to Containment were an effective way to communicate our expectations for everyone. Because recommendations have changed, we’re asking you to join us in crushing COVID by following the “Crush COVID Commitments” below.

Get vaccinated. Make required until further notice. Get tested if you have symptoms. Wash your hands often. Stay home if you are sick.

August 2021 Update

August 12, 2021

Colorado Mountain College looks forward to welcoming students back for the fall semester on August 23, 2021. We will be open and holding most classes in-person, in addition to other classes that will be offered in online or hybrid formats.

The college will announce its fall semester COVID-19 protocols on Wednesday, August 18.

CMC implores all faculty, staff, students and community members to get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. The COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your communities and, most important, to ensure that CMC can offer uninterrupted instruction throughout the fall semester.

CMC is requiring proof of vaccination for COVID-19 for students who live in the college’s residence halls, participate in athletics or enroll in academic programs such as health care, public safety and first responder. Exemptions from vaccination may be requested for medical reasons or religious/personal beliefs.

COVID Vaccine Update

Coronavirus Updates & Information

COVID Vaccine Update

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, the Colorado Department of Higher Education issued a statement regarding public colleges and universities requiring COVID-19 vaccines for students enrolling this fall. In that press release, Colorado’s Governor Jared Polis offered his support to institutions that choose to mandate the vaccine.

Colorado Mountain College has always prioritized the health and safety of its students, faculty and staff, and community members and will continue to do so as it carefully considers its expectations for students and employees returning to campus in fall 2021.

As an open-access institution with a diverse student population and multiple campuses spread across a large geographic region, CMC works closely with a wide array of community health professionals, county health departments, local hospitals, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Education, and its elected board of trustees to make the best decisions for the students we serve and the people we employ.

As we have consistently done over the past many months, CMC will continue to strongly recommend that all members of the college community seek out and receive a COVID-19 vaccine and practice the five commitments to containment. These strategies have resulted in very low cases of COVID-19 on our campuses and among our employees.

Similar to hosting flu shot clinics and health fairs, the college will make every effort to promote the COVID-19 vaccine this summer and fall, make it readily available to residents of our mountain communities, and strive for broad based immunization among our campus populations.

CMC already requires certain vaccines for students living in our residence halls, participating in athletics, and enrolled in health care and public safety programs. The COVID-19 vaccine will be included in these requirements for these students enrolling this fall. CMC will develop a process for verifying COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with applicable legal and health guidelines. If you have questions, please read our COVID Vaccine FAQs.

We invite all CMC students, employees, and residents of our mountain communities to responsibly contribute to the health and safety of themselves and others through their personal choices, behaviors and actions.

Please check back to this site for updates on CMC’s COVID-19 policy or send a question or comment to:  covid19@coloradomtn.edu.

Coronavirus Updates & Information

Plans for Fall 2021

March 10, 2021

Based on the latest pandemic and vaccine rollout projections, we are planning to offer a more comprehensive on-campus experience this fall, including extensive in-person classes, open residence halls, student clubs, organizations, and activities. We will announce more details about Fall 2021 over the coming months, but below is a very brief outline of our plans.

COURSE OFFERINGS

We’ll have many more in-person options this fall, and we’ll also have flexible options for those who prefer to learn online. We’re offering the following class types in Fall 2021.

  • In-Person – These courses require 100% in-person instruction offered in compliance with prevailing public health orders (if applicable).
  • LiveStream – College-wide offerings that run in the virtual environment at a scheduled time and date using video conference technologies that will be accessible regardless of your “home” campus.
  • Hybrid – These courses require a mix of on-campus/in-person and online/virtual instruction. Hybrid courses will require instruction both in the classroom on a campus and online.
  • Online Anytime – Take these online courses anytime, on your schedule.

RESIDENCE HALLS

Our residence halls will be open this fall, in compliance with local public health orders, and we anticipate our residence halls to be popular places this year!

Reserve your spot by May 1 and receive $500 off housing for the Fall 2021 semester.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The college’s current COVID-19 procedures are on the CMC Trail Map. We are in close contact with local public health officials at all of our campuses and will update the CMC Trail Map for Fall 2021 this summer.
