Perry comes to CMC with 30 years of business experience, across a wide range of organizations.  His most extensive corporate stint was 17 years with American Express in New York and Toronto.  His last position there was head of global budgeting; other positions involved bond financing, foreign exchange, strategic planning, division head of financial management, and the treasurer role for the Canadian business.  Perry has also worked for a wide range of other organizations including Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), the International Erosion Control Association, Western Slope Accounting Group, and Catamount Ranch and Club all in professional capacities.  He was also owner/operator of a Steamboat-based building products business for five years.

At CMC Perry focuses on accounting and finance, but is also involved in marketing, economics and human resources.  He also works doing tax accounting part-time for a local public accounting firm.

MBA & Bachelor of Marketing, Regis University, Denver. Associate of Applied Science, Ski and Snowboard Business &  Associate of Science, Colorado Mountain College, Steamboat

Work History

After completing my degrees, I worked for various snowsport companies in areas such as marketing, product design, and sales. I am a passionate skier and have a Level 3 Avalanche certification which I use to help educate students on backcountry travel and safety as part of being the advisor to CMC Backcountry club.

The courses I teach focus on the marketing, manufacturing and media components of the action-sport industry. I have been involved in various marketing and product design projects for brands like Nordica, Helly Hansen, Spyder, Uvex, and more. I bring the knowledge from my previous professional career to the classroom and strive to create real-world situations for my students. The Ski and Snowboard Business (SKB) program, is the only program in the nation focusing on retail, marketing and manufacturing aspects of the action-sport industry.

My academic background is in political science and international studies, and I have a long personal history of involvement in social change movements, particularly in the Central American peace and justice, and international human rights movements. In addition to my regular course load, I take students to Central America each year to study the political, economic, and social roots of poverty and violence. In March 2013, I took a group of students to Cuba to study the nature and evolution of the Cuban Revolution. I am also the advisor of the CMC chapter of Amnesty International, a global human rights organization. My work within the Sustainability Studies program at CMC centers on economic and social equity, with a particular focus on building capacity for action and leadership for social change.

My focus as a sustainability educator is on involving students and my community in transformative, sustainability-oriented learning and doing.
