About

Jeffrey Runyon has been teaching at Colorado Mountain College Leadville since 2008. He has committed his time to teaching English—composition, literature, poetry, creative writing, and more. Jeffrey was named Full-time Faculty of the Year in 2009-2010 and was the Faculty Senator for the Leadville campus from 2008-2012.

Jeffrey Runyon has been on CMC’s International Programs Committee since 2008, and lead the study abroad trip to Ireland in 2013.

When he isn’t teaching, Jeffrey enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, reading, writing, motorcycling, and traveling.

About

Kelli McCall speaking at Colorado Mountain College LeadvilleKelli McCall has taught full-time at Colorado Mountain College since 2010. She teaches college composition and reading, developmental math, and GED courses at CMC Leadville. Kelli was named Full-time Faculty of the Year in 2011 and 2017. She is the faculty advisor for Student Government Affairs (SGA) and the coordinator of the Common Reader program in Leadville.

Kelli enjoys getting to know students in and outside the classroom and is very involved in the Leadville community.

“I am reminded every day that each of my students is an expert in some way or field,” says McCall, “and it is up to me to tap into that expertise to support his or her educational journey.”

When she isn’t teaching, she enjoys running, participating in community events and organizations.

“When we promote the love of learning and literacy,” says Kelli, “Our communities and those within them will thrive.”

Cooper came to CMC in 2008 after serving students at High Mountain Institute from 2003 – 2008 as a science, math, and wilderness ethics teacher and expedition leader. He teaches outdoor orientation courses as well as recreation practices and other classes with an outdoor education focus at Colorado Mountain College Leadville. Cooper also taught science in Lenk, Switzerland (2001-2002) at Alpine Environmental Education Center for Hohliebi Educational Programs where he also served as the outdoor programmer.

In his free time, Cooper enjoys all things snow and bikes, community building/development, and adventuring with wife Carrie and kids Hattie and Hobbes.

About

Jason began his career in the ski industry by aiding in the construction of Huff Hills, a small ski area in North Dakota. He was the foreman on all phases of construction from the ground up, including installing the snowmaking system, lifts, clearing trails, as well as building the chalet and shop. After completing the Ski Area Management program at Gogebic Community College, Jason headed out for an internship at Copper Mountain and never left. He was the Terrain Parks and Half Pipes Foreman at Copper Mountain for 11 years and was the first recipient of the Terrain Master of the Year award presented by Colorado Ski Country USA in 2002.

Ski Area Operations faculty Jason Gusaas and other SAO graduates skiing with their cap and gowns.In 2002, Jason stepped away from Copper to pursue a position with Plant Snow Design. During his five years with them, he had the opportunity to work on several events such as the Chevy Grand Prix of Snowboarding, The Vail Honda Session, The World Cup of Snowboarding, The Swatch Boarder Cross World Tour as well as consulting, designing and operator training for many other ski areas.

Jason has taught at Colorado Mountain College Leadville since 2009 and enjoys the close proximity to so many outdoor activities that Leadville provides. His hobbies include spending time with his family, snowboarding, hunting and fishing.

About

Since 2009, Roger Coit has been a faculty member of Colorado Mountain College in Leadville instructing EMS and Outdoor Studies courses. Prior to becoming a full-time faculty member, he taught as an adjunct instructor for the college since 1998, leading courses in avalanche safety, wilderness medicine, and urban EMS.

From 2003 – 2011, Roger worked as a paramedic and Deputy Director for Summit County EMS, and he now works as a part-time Paramedic in Chaffee County, Colorado. Roger has significant wilderness rescue experience and has been a lead instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates since 1995. He was the ski patrol assistant director and snow safety coordinator with Monarch Ski Area for ten years, from 1991 – 2001.

He also has many years as a river guide and river manager on the Arkansas River as well as guiding on many other rivers in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and West Virginia. In collaboration with local avalanche experts and respected agencies, Roger has been involved in the development of the Avalanche Science curriculum since its very beginnings.
