Markey Butler

Markey Butler has a diverse background as a health care executive in all aspects of health services ranging from large metropolitan hospitals to nursing homes to home health and hospice organizations.
She was the founder of HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley, and retired in 2018 as executive director. The non-profit health care entity continues to provide a comprehensive array of home health, private duty and hospice services to those residing in Pitkin, Garfield and Eagle counties.
All of Butler’s leadership experience has been with non-profit organizations, which includes leading a multi-faceted consulting organization primarily focused on strategic plan, governance and board development, program implementation and evaluation.
Butler has served on multiple boards and has served as chair of several Roaring Fork area non-profit agencies. She continues to be an active member of the Snowmass Village Rotary and serves as president of the Snowmass Rotary Foundation. Butler most recently finished her term as chair of the Pitkin County Health Board, and was instrumental in guiding the board through the first 19 months of the pandemic. She continues to serve as a member of the board.
In 2020, Butler finished six years as mayor of Snowmass Village. The longtime Pitkin County resident has also served on the Planning Commission of Snowmass Village and served on Town Council for six years.
Butler volunteers for the Forest Conservancy as a wilderness ranger and spends any spare time on the numerous mountain trails. She also volunteers for the Aspen Music Festival as an ambassador. Butler sits on the board of the Snowmass Western Heritage Association and she volunteers every Wednesday evening during the Summer for the Snowmass Village Rodeo.
Butler and her husband Jerry have lived in Snowmass Village for 25 years, and prior to establishing their permanent home in Snowmass Village, the couple resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has two grown daughters: Amy is a critical care veterinarian residing in Pittsburgh and Deanna is a corporate attorney in San Francisco.
