CMC Fire Academy Checklist

Complete a CPAT test or provide documentation of successful completion of a CPAT test within 12 months of the start date of the Academy. A good place to start researching testing locations, dates and times is

Based upon your educational goals, you may need to meet with a college counselor. If so, call 970-569-2900 to schedule an appointment.

Apply to Colorado Mountain College, if you have not already done so.


Complete Accuplacer Assessment testing if required. A meeting with a college counsellor will help you determine if you need to take the Accuplacer test. If you have already enrolled and completed college courses at CMC, you are ready to move ahead towards your new career.

Register for the Academy classes - FST-100 and FST-107. You will need to apply for Credit for Prior Learning for FST-160 CPAT in order to enroll in FST-100. You should register as soon as possible to ensure that you have a spot in the classes. For questions about prerequisite process contact the FST Program Coordinator.

A $400 student fee is due, in addition to tuition, for personal protective equipment (PPE) or the academy. Be sure this has been paid, along with all tuition costs or appropriate financial aid arrangements have been made. This equipment is essential to comply with the National Fire Protection Association’s standards for firefighter training. You cannot complete the Academy without proper PPE.
