Changing Your Name at CMC
CMC understands that a person’s name helps define a person’s identity and sense of self, and we want people to feel comfortable at CMC.
You can update your legal name and preferred name at any time during your time at Colorado Mountain College.
Legal Name
To update your legal name at CMC, please complete the Change My Legal Name task in Workday and attach legal documentation (Login Required). Once processed, your legal name will be updated across all CMC systems/applications. You will receive a new username and email address to reflect your updated name. Please note that a new username and email can take a few weeks to be processed.
Please ensure you also update your legal name with the Social Security Administration, on your FAFSA, and with Selective Service.
Preferred Name
If you entered a preferred name on your Application to CMC, it will be used across most CMC systems and documents - see the drop-downs below for more information.
You can add or update your preferred name at CMC using the Change My Preferred Name task in Workday (Login Required). Please note that no documentation is required to change your preferred first or middle name, however last names can only be updated with legal name change documentation.
You can also choose to receive a new username and email address to reflect your preferred name. After you have updated your preferred name, please reach out to the Service Desk to request the change to your username and email.
Please note that there are some documents and systems where the legal name has to be used. Please see the dropdown below.
If you have submitted a Legal or Preferred Name Change and your information is not displaying correctly, please contact the Registrar’s Office immediately:
