Advancing Students for a Stronger Economy Tomorrow (ASSET)

Colorado’s ASSET bill allows U.S. citizens, permanent resident aliens, and students without lawful immigration status to qualify for in-state tuition rates if they meet certain conditions.

To qualify for Colorado ASSET in-state tuition a student must:

  • Graduated from a Colorado high school or was physically present in Colorado for at least one year immediately preceding the date the student successfully completed a high school equivalency examination in Colorado; and
  • Has been physically present in Colorado for at least 12 consecutive months prior to enrolling in an institution.

Students without lawful presence must ALSO complete an affidavit indicating that they have applied for legal presence or will apply as soon as eligible to do so.

Colorado Mountain College Procedure

A student who is considered independent may qualify for the “in-district” tuition rate if she or he meets all eligibility criteria for in-state tuition under ASSET rules and has lived in the CMC District for at least 32 days.

A student who is considered a dependent (under the age of 23) may qualify for the “in-district” tuition rate if she or he meets the all eligibility criteria for in-state tuition under ASSET rules and their parents/guardians have lived in the CMC District for at least 32 days.
