Lydia Anderson | Hi everyone! My name is Lydia Anderson, and I’m a local nurse currently working with Northwest Colorado Health in home health and hospice. I’m so excited to offer tutoring hours because I remember exactly what it felt like to be a nursing student — the overwhelming amount of information to learn in such a short time can feel like a lot! My goal as a tutor is to encourage, support, and motivate you not only academically, but also emotionally and mentally throughout this challenging season. Having earned both my associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing here in our rural community, I truly understand the unique challenges students face. I hope you’ll join me for some snacks, connection, and encouragement as we work together to make nursing school a more manageable (and dare I say…. enjoyable?!) experience! | Anatomy and Physiology, Nursing | ljanderson2@coloradomtn.edu | https://coloradomtn-edu.zoom.us/j/83317428827 | Join me at these times Thu 5pm-7pm |

Jonathan Beam | I am our instructional reference librarian on campus. I moved to the Steamboat area with my wife, Liz, in 2014, and have been a member of the CMC team since then. In 2020, I earned a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of Alberta, in Edmonton. Outside of work, I enjoy good books, hot cocoa, gaming, and casting suspicious glances at the outdoors through well-insulated windows. I am looking forward to now being able to shush students in tutoring sessions, rather than just in the library itself. | Writing in any class, Research | jlbeam@coloradomtn.edu | Thu 11:30am-1pm Steamboat Bristol 320 | College Composition & Reading Steamboat Library Bristol Research Public Speaking Interpersonal Communication Comm & Popular Culture Group Communication Intercultural Communication Argumentation & Debate Intro to Criminal Justice Substantive Criminal Law Constitutional Law Intro to Early Childhood Intro to ECE Techniques Guidance Strategies-Children Infant/Toddler Theory & Prac Science/Math & the Young Child ECE Nutrition/Health/Safety Curriculum Methods/Techniques Lang & Cognition - Young Child Early Language & Literacy ECE Child Growth & Developmt Admin. of ECE Programs Admin: Human Relations ECE Working W/Families & Community The Exceptional Child Practicum: ECE Introduction to Education Multilingual Learners Multicultural Education How People Learn Framework for Instruction Math Methods: Best Practices Elementary Science Methods Language Arts: Foundations Intermediate Literacy Methods Teach/Assess CLD Learners Teaching Arts & Movement Intervention & Inclusion Diff Teacher Leadership & Ethics Research-Based Instruction Internship II with Seminar Assessment: Special Education Differentiated Instruction Foundations of Biliteracy Biliteracy in Practice Teacher Leadership Seminar II Academic Literacy & Success Academic Writing Skills Technical English & Comm English Composition I English Composition II Creative Writing I Creative Writing II Poetry Writing Western Civ: Antiquity-1650 Western Civ: 1650-Present The World: Antiquity-1500 The World: 1500-Present US History to Reconstruction US History Since Civil War American Environmental History American Indian History Colorado History History of Latin America 20th Century World History African American History Introduction to Film Art World Mythology Early Civilizations Humanities: Medieval-Modern Humanities: Modern World American Cinema Photojournalism Introduction to Literature I Study of Poetry World Literature to 1600 World Literature After 1600 Ethnic Literature British Lit to 1770 Introduction to Shakespeare Literature of Women Children's Literature Introduction to Philosophy Ethics Logic Comparative Religions World Religions - West World Religions - East Philosophy of Religion Environmental Ethics Philosophy of Death & Dying General Psychology I General Psychology II Career Development Leadership Development Social Psychology Psychology of Death & Dying Positive Psychology Human Growth & Development Child Development Health Psychology Abnormal Psychology Introduction to Sociology II Environmental Sociology Contemporary Social Problems Sociology of Gender Sociology of Diversity Introduction to Sustainability Issues in Sustainability Foundations of Sustainability Systems Thinking & Sustain. Mia Beyer | I began the Sustainability Studies Program at CMC when Dr. Kim Langmaid entered as our new Sustainability Studies Professor. Returning to college after over ten years was intimidating and I felt uncertain about the direction in which I was headed. By frequently utilizing the Tutoring Lab every semester, I developed the academic confidence and skills required to earn a 4.0 GPA and a BA in Sustainability Studies! Since graduating in May 2022, I missed having CMC in my life. Now that I am a tutor, I aim to give students the same life-changing support I received when I was a student. | Writing in any class, Sustainability, ESL, English Conversation | mbeyer@coloradomtn.edu | Si | Tue 10am-5pm Edwards Room 205 Thu 10am-6pm Edwards Room 205 |

I grew up in Costa Rica, where I completed my undergraduate studies in Spanish philology, linguistics, and literature. I later earned a master’s degree in applied linguistics and a PhD in curriculum and instruction, and have taught at multiple levels while also working in curriculum development. I am passionate about bilingual education and language learning. As a student, I benefited from feedback and support along my academic journey, and I enjoy working with students by honoring the knowledge, experiences, and strengths you already bring, and supporting them as they continue to grow. | Education, Humanities, Writing in any class | lburbanodelara@coloradomtn.edu | https://coloradomtn-edu.zoom.us/j/7779575472?pwd=WDlwZC9QUFF3Z1RmOG5ieWlpYlR2Zz09 | Si | Join me at these times Wed 6pm-8pm |

Patrick Cade | I grew up in Oregon and went to Whitman College for undergraduate. I received my PhD from State University of New York at Albany in Mathematics. I moved to Leadville to get closer to the mountains. I am also a running coach, and love to spend my time out on the trails. I struggled with writing as an undergraduate, I needed extra help with my college's writing center. Once I was able to get other people to read and comment on my writing, I crafted strong papers. | Algebra, Math for Liberal Arts, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Statistics | pgcade@coloradomtn.edu | https://cmc.webex.com/meet/pgcade | Join me at these times Tue 12pm-2pm Thu 12pm-2pm |

Sarah Fowler | The running joke is that I'm a professional student. After much traditional education (I have a PhD in Organic Chemistry), I took lessons for sailing and skiing, and became a skilled gardener, knitter and home chef. But one-on-one teaching is the most fun! In college, I felt challenged or overwhelmed most of the time. When I admitted that I couldn't do it all on my own, I discovered that my professors actually wanted to know me, friends were good study partners, and life needs priorities and boundaries. In between trips to the beach, I earned my degree in Communication with an emphasis on film. After graduation, the call of the mountains drew me to Colorado. I lived in Denver for a few years while I pursued a master’s degree in Library & Information Science, gaining expertise on research methods and information retrieval. Leslie Gumbrecht | I truly believe that one of the greatest catalysts of change is the power of the written word. From Henry David Thoreau and John Muir to Peter Singer and Barbara Kingsolver, words on paper have sparked real movements – movements that have significantly changed the way that people interact with their world. I also believe that deep self-reflection and contemplation are the greatest means of shifting our world’s consciousness. Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh writes that “although attempting to bring about world peace through the internal transformation of individuals is difficult, it is the only way.” I see my role as a writing instructor as guiding students down that path of internal transformation through the writing process. My husband Bob Gumbrecht also teaches at CMC—he's in the Political Science department. David Joseph | In secondary school I was driven toward academic success by my family, causing me to spend a great deal of energy perfecting my work. Upon entering college I was determined to make my studies a more joyful practice, ever looking for opportunities to learn and draw connections in place of simply polishing off that final one percent. Jeff Runyon | My name is Jeffrey Runyon, Professor of English and Literature at the Leadville Campus and Director of The CWiL. Though I live in Buena Vista, I consider the whole Arkansas Valley to be my chosen home. In my fifteen years at CMC’s Leadville Campus, I have taught over 20 different courses in composition, rhetoric, research, poetry, fiction, ancient literature, modern literature, and mythology. I have advanced degrees in Literature and Creative Writing, emphasis in Poetics. As a writing coach, I can assist with any written artifact; I can also help with research and documentation. I believe that writing is a process and that every stage of the process benefits from thoughtful consideration and response—which I am excited to supply! | Writing in any class, Research | jrunyon@coloradomtn.edu | Tue 1pm-4pm CWiL at Leadville Pinnacle Learning Commons Thu 1pm-4pm CWiL at Leadville Pinnacle Learning Commons |

Anne Turner | I live in Montrose, on the Western Slope of Colorado with my family. In 2007, I earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University in English, with a concentration on literature and composition. In 2011, I completed the secondary teaching licensure program at CSU as well. More recently, I earned a master’s degree in Online teaching. I have worked as an online teacher for over 11 years. When I’m not tutoring, my family and I enjoy spending time outdoors in all the seasons. As a student, I often struggled with how to effectively answer writing prompts and organize my thoughts into well-crafted essays. With the support of many instructors, I was able to overcome this academic challenge and now I work with secondary and post-secondary students to do the same. As a writing tutor now, I can share multiple ways to organize your thoughts into writing, regardless of the content. | Writing in any class, Education, Praxis, Reading, ESL | aturner8@coloradomtn.edu | https://cmc.webex.com/meet/aturner8 | https://outlook.office365.com/book/VirtualTutoringAnneTurner@coloradomtn.onmicrosoft.com/ | Join me at these times Mon 11am-2pm Tue 11am-2pm Wed 11am-2pm Thu 11am-2pm Make an Appointment (times vary) |

Mandy Underwood | After graduating with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering, I moved to the mountains to get far away from any desk job. I worked in the snowboard industry for about ten years, eight as a team snowboard coach. Coaching showed me what I really enjoy – helping people overcome challenges. Snowboarding presents challenges in a different way than academics, but both can be very difficult. And both can feel much more rewarding with someone guiding you through. I remember how hard it was to learn snowboarding, math, and physics – so I can relate to how students are feeling. I hope to help make the subjects a little less daunting and stressful so that students can enjoy them. I teach physics 1 and 2 labs. I am tutoring college algebra in person. I can take appointments for students needing help with physics, college algebra, or other math classes. | Physics, Calculus, Algebra, Math for Liberal Arts | aunderwood3@coloradomtn.edu | https://coloradomtn-edu.zoom.us/j/9808829631 | Join me at these times Wed 5:30pm-7:30pm |

What Do Students Say About Tutoring?
When I was diagnosed with perceptual communication disorder it destroyed my confidence in my academic ability. Thankfully, the tutors at CMC helped instill confidence in me and my ability to grasp concepts that I had previously found perplexing or impossible. Not only has tutoring boosted my confidence, but it has also enabled me to excel as a student and maintain a 4.0 GPA!
