Adjudication Process
The adjudication process at Colorado Mountain College is designed to provide a learning experience that encourages growth and personal understanding of one’s responsibilities and privileges within the college environment. The goal of the adjudication process is to balance an understanding and knowledge of students/community members and their needs, with the needs of other students and the college community.

Annual Security & Fire Safety Report
The Annual Security & Fire Safety Report (ASR) is published in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). The Annual Security & Fire Safety Report is an annual report that lists crimes and fire statistics and college wide security information. Safety and security of students, staff, and community members is one of Colorado Mountain College’s highest priorities.

Complaints
Colorado Mountain College uses an online student support system, known as Advocate. This system allows students, parents, faculty, and staff the ability to report student issues. These issues can range from homesickness to academic issues or campus policy violations.

Course and Program Fees
Colorado Mountain College may charge fees to students who enroll in certain courses or programs to cover specific costs permitted by state law and by policies of the Colorado Commission for Higher Education. Such fees are intended to cover added costs or to enhance the learning experience provided by the particular course or program.

Cost of Attendance
A student’s cost of attendance is a combination of expenses used to determine a financial aid recipients total estimated cost to attend one year, at the full time level of 12 credit hours for the fall and spring semesters.
Additional cost factors are added if a student elects to attend classes for the summer term.
The cost of attendance includes tuition and fees, room and board, transportation, books & supplies and miscellaneous expenses.

Grade Appeals
Colorado Mountain College recognizes the faculty members' right and responsibility to award a fair and impartial grade. Likewise, the college recognizes the importance of the grade received by the student and the student's right to have the evaluation system be fair and equitable. An appeals process has been put in place for students questioning their grades.

Immunization Requirement
Colorado Mountain College must comply with the state immunization law. This law requires certain full-time students to provide documentation concerning their immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella. The Registrar’s Office will notify you if this documentation is required. Questions may be addressed to the Student Services Office at the CMC location most convenient to you.
Privacy of Student Records - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Student Educational Rights and Privacy Act
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of the student’s permanent educational records.
This act was also designated to protect the privacy of education records, to establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records, and to provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings.
Copies of Colorado Mountain College policy relating to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, are available in the registration office of each campus. Students also have the right to file complaints with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Office concerning alleged failures by the institution to comply with the Act.

DIRECTORY INFORMATION
Colorado Mountain College hereby gives notice that it has designated certain items as "Directory Information" under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Directory Information concerning students at the College can be released without prior written consent of the student as permitted by law unless the student has notified Colorado Mountain College that such information should not be released without his or her consent.
"Directory Information" at Colorado Mountain College is as follows:
• student name
• dates of attendance
• enrollment status
• degree and awards received
• activity and sport participation
• major
If a student doesn’t want this directory information to be available to the public, they must complete the FERPA Request To Withhold Directory Information . This authorization remains in effect until rescinded by the student.
CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 was written to protect the privacy of education records. Colorado Mountain College will only disclose confidential information from student’s education records with the written consent of the student.
This means that only the student can access their educational record. If a student wants to allow their parent(s) or guardian (or another individual) access to their educational records they must submit a FERPA Release Of Information Waiver . The release of information waiver authorizes Colorado Mountain College to release any and all information from a student’s education record to the student’s parent(s) guardian (or other individual) designated on the form. This authorization remains in effect until rescinded by the student.
If a student requires the release of specific information for a specific purpose; for example a copy of their immunization records or a grade verification for a scholarship they must submit a FERPA Consent To Release Specific Confidential Information . This authorization is only in force for the specified request. Additional information for additional individuals/agencies must be requested separately.

Residence Hall Handbook
Colorado Mountain College believes that living in a residence hall on campus can be a special opportunity — one in which students experience the open exchange of ideas and social growth. Living on campus facilitates integration into the campus social network of peers, faculty and staff, and extracurricular activities. Sex Offender Registry
According to federal law (Clery Act) CMC is required to provide students and community members with a site that identifies the name of the student who is a registered sex offender.

Student Code of Conduct
Students and community members are subject to the same federal, state, and local laws as non-students and are the beneficiaries of the same safeguards of individual rights. As members of the academic community, students and community members are expected to conduct themselves in a reasonable manner.

Student Complaint Process
Colorado Mountain College has four categories of student-related complaints.
1st category: Alleged violation of the student code of conduct
A faculty/student/staff member can lodge a complaint when a student violates the student code of conduct as listed in the CMC Student Handbook and Catalog. The disciplinary (aka adjudication) policy is followed in this case.
2nd category: Grade appeal
Students have the right to appeal a final course grade if they think that the grade was awarded in a capricious manner. The grade appeal procedure is outlined in the Student Handbook and College Catalog.
3rd category: Financial aid appeal
Students have the right to appeal financial aid decisions, including loan denial and financial aid suspension. The appeal process is outlined in financial aid brochures and appeal forms are available through the Financial Aid Specialists or at Central Services.
4th category: All other student complaints
For student-initiated complaints including, but not limited to, CMC policies or processes, CMC staff/faculty behavior toward a student, etc. Students lodging a complaint against a staff member, faculty member, or another student that is not related to grade appeal, financial aid appeal or violation of the student code of conduct will follow the process as published in the Catalog/Students Rights & Responsibilities (link below).

Student Employment
If you are planning to work part-time while you are attending school, you should plan to visit with the Student Services Office as soon as possible. The College Counselor can provide information about part-time and full-time job opportunities throughout the community.

Tobacco Policy
Colorado Mountain College has a responsibility to its employees and students to provide a safe and healthful environment. CMC has initiated a tobacco use policy that specifies:
Each campus and center will identify designated smoking areas. Smoking will be limited to these designated areas only. All smoking areas shall be clearly marked with signs.
The Summit Campus is tobacco free. This means the use of tobacco products is prohibited at the Summit Campus and Dillon Center.
